Liturgical Ministry List

Boys and girls, third grade and older who have received First Eucharist are invited to assist the priest during the celebration of  Mass and for other liturgical celebrations and devotions.  We are looking to recruit children and teenagers who desire to serve God, show attentiveness at Mass, and showcase a prayerful reverence for the Eucharist.

Servers are scheduled for at least two weekend Masses per month. Servers must arrive at least 20 minutes prior to their scheduled Mass and attend scheduled training.

Provides clean altar linens for Liturgical celebrations. Be trained in the proper rinsing, pre-treating stains, laundering and ironing of small altar cloths. Volunteers pick up linens and return them to the sacristy after proper washing and ironing of the linens.

The Audio-Visual Ministry focuses on the projection of pre-Mass announcements, lyrics to songs and Psalms, Videos, and Homily graphics.  We also project the Mass in Resurrection Hall for overflow during Christmas and Easter.  Volunteers also help with our sound board in the regulation and balance of microphones.  Little experience is required and training is provided.

In coordination with the Sacristan, this team is responsible for decorating the church in each of the liturgical seasons.  We always need a team of creative people to place and arrange decorations, including flowers/plants, banners, wreaths and other décor items.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) are members of the parish community who have received the sacraments of initiation and are prayerful people.  They may assist the clergy in distribution of Holy Communion at Mass, and visit the homebound, aged, and sick so that they may receive the Eucharist and remain connected with the parish community.

Registered parishioners, having received all sacraments of initiation, in good-standing with the Church are invited become part of the EMHC team.

Lectors (or commonly referred to as "readers") are liturgical ministers who proclaim the scripture readings at Sunday, Holy Days and daily Masses.  Through prayerful proclamation Readers embody the Sacred Word in a very special way. This requires a number of people to be able to fill this schedule and we are always looking for new people.  It is a most worthwhile ministry and an honor to share the Word of God. Lectors are especially needed at the 7:00 am and 6:00 pm Masses.

Who can become a lector? Students ages 10 and above, adults, as well as experienced readers new to St. Catherine of Siena who are interested in this important ministry of the Word.

Music Ministry consists of the traditional choir with cantors, a contemporary music ensemble, and a youth ensemble.  Members of these ensembles provide music for liturgies and encourage the congregation to sing as part of their praise of God. All members of the ensemble rehearse weekly.

Quiet Angels is a group of volunteers that clean the Church sanctuary every Thursday after the 7:00 am daily mass.

Activities may include: Dusting pews, floors and other flat surfaces; vacuuming auxiliary rooms; cleaning glass walls; maintaining cleanliness of holy water fonts; sweeping entry ways; changing out envelopes for various special collections.

Sacristans prepare all that is necessary for the liturgy before Mass begins and coordinates that all the various ministers are present. After Mass, sacristans wash sacred vessels, purify linens and return all items used for Mass to proper storage; maintain neatness in all ministry areas, turn off all that had been turned on and secure the church building.

Ushers assist people with seating, offertory collections and direct the parishioner’s movement during the communion rite. Volunteers should have a warm, friendly personality and be able to stand for long periods of time.

Greeters have a special role to play whenever God’s people assemble in prayer. Greeters are those who, almost without trying, can put others at ease and convey countless good wishes for those they greet with a simple smile or “hello.” They may also assist with the orderly flow of people in and out of Mass. Greet parishioners with a smile, and answer general questions.  Pass out bulletins every Sunday and other items when needed.  Greeters are also  responsible for choosing a family to present the gifts at each Mass.
